Stormwater Project

July 9, 2022 2022, Projects

BIG SANDY STORMWATER PROJECT | CITY BUSINESS COORDINATION PLAN FOR CONSTRUCTION

We with Acme Asphalt Industries will work with the Town, to limit disruptions for access as much as possible within the scope of the work for new Storm Drain system and street work with new pavement. We fully expect to finish the project ahead of the 90-day timeline, as shown in our Schedule.

Asphalt removal will be restricted to one side of Johannes Avenue at a time, in order to minimize disruptions to businesses and daily Town activities. We will be starting on the North side; the South side of the street will remain open. We will provide daily pedestrian access across the work lane, where safe, as we progress with the work. Our team may need to restrict or close access crossing the work area for obvious safety concerns; however, we will minimize this as much as possible. This access will be assessed daily, and a new access area developed if needed. The project Schedule will be posted at City Hall for all to see.

ACME recognizes the inconvenience that construction activities pose for residents and businesses along Johannes Ave., and we have developed our construction plan to minimize these as much as possible. In addition, a Traffic Control Plan with detours will be posted at City Hall also, to provide information for residents. We are available to meet with the business owners onsite as the work progresses. Updates to when reflect major activities will be taking place will be posted in City Hall. KLJ will be available to assist with City Coordination also.

Travis McWilliams, Superintendent of the project will be onsite daily. He will coordinate the daily work and movement down the street with Asphalt removal on Johannes, followed by sub excavation, Storm drains removal, and new storm drain installation on Johannes Avenue, and 1st & 2nd streets. Construction activities will include sufficient area over the centerline on Johannes to accommodate building the new Valley Gutter on centerline. Aggregate base will then be installed and the North side of Johannes, and the reconstructed area paved with new asphalt. Upon this completion and opening of the new north side, we will move to the south and continue the operations as we did on the north, and on the south including 1st and 2nd street. KLJ will be onsite to provide oversight of construction activities and assist with all coordination of the work with the City.
