Town of Big Sandy, Montana City Council Minutes

REGULAR MEETING

Mayor Shaud Schwarzbach called the meeting to order.

Council members present were Colby Baumgarn, Darin Ray and Ted Pursley.

Staff Present: Wendy Kleinsasser, Town Clerk, and Larry Geyer, PW

Public: Rich Jespersen, Jon Sheehy, Jeremy Echols, Tim Uribe, Logan Tweet, Luke Laliberty, Shane Chauvet

Approval of Meeting Minutes: Colby Baumgarn moved to approve the minutes from the December meeting; Ted Pursley seconded, motion passed.

Public Comments: Shane Chauvet addressed the council regarding the cost of a soil treatment for the alfalfa field where the pivot is located. This was carried over to the discussion with the engineers with KLJ

Sheriff Report: None

New Water Project: Tim Uribe of KLJ gave the council a project status update. Colby Baumgarn moved that the mayor sign the task order Ted Pursley seconded; motion passed.

The discharge permit was discussed. The town had previously decided to opt for the batch permit. The discussion turned to the soil issued on the Chauvet land and as a result of the talks, it was decided that KLJ would work with Shane Chauvet and the Salinity Board to try to come up with a workable solution to the salinity problem. Ted Pursley moved that the town reimburse Chauvet Cattle for the treatment already used. Colby Baumgarn seconded; motion passed.

Bear Paw Development/Brownfield Project: There was no report from Bear Paw

New Business

Oath of Office: Darin Ray and Colby Baumgarn were sworn in as council members.

Council Position: Jon Sheehy and Rich Jespersen both expressed interest in the position.

Office Cleaning: Tabled

Operator Certification: The town will send Larry and Tim to the Rural Water conference in February. Larry will attend a pre-conference prep session in Havre in early February to prepare for the operator test.

Old Business

Charge for Inactive/Vacant properties connected to water and sewer system: There will be a work meeting at 8 p.m. on January 17 to work on this.

Committee Reports: None

Mayor Report: The staff Christmas party was scheduled for January 27.

Public Works: Public works will look into repairing the Durango.

Clerk:
* The shut off list was distributed
* The correspondence was distributed.

Claims: Ted Pursley moved to accept the claims. Colby Baumgarn seconded; motion passed.

General Journal Voucher. Darin Ray moved to approve JV 2018-06. Ted Pursley seconded, motion passed.

Any Business to be brought before the Council:

Ted Pursley moved to adjourn, Colby Baumgarn seconded; motion passed.
